As our Facebook friends know... Miss Layla had to spend 14 days at the vet and have surgery on her ear.
Thought I'd give the full story here, as it wasn't told very well on Facebook.
I woke up Monday morning, and was playing with Miss Layla's ear, like I always do. When I touched her swollen ear, I freaked out. I told Chris there was something wrong with it and he needed to check it out. He of course ignored me and just said "ok" and went back to eating his cereal!
What a jerk! I know!! :)
Once the king was done eating his breakfast, he looked at her ear and said "Oh my god!!" and all I could say was "I told you so!!" We decided she needed to go to the vet that morning. We were sure a blood vessel had just burst or something.
(The area left of my nail is swollen to the tip.. about the size of my thumb)
We left so fast, didn't grab the girls collar or harness... we leave the leashs in the car, otherwise we would have forgot that too! haha. On the way to Warrensburg, Chris had to google and landed on a Hematoma! The vet, and we agreed that's what it was... because Layla has severe allergies, and that is a cause of hematomas.
The vet said she needed to stay for surgery. So we sadly left our baby, didn't really have another choice.
After 3 days there, they finally got her into surgery. They took her, and was going to squeeze her in where they could, instead of making an appointment for later. After her surgery, she needed to stay for 7-10 days, depending on how she lets it heal.
Two weeks later, we got the call we could finally bust her out! We went right away to get her, and once there they informed us it was not a hematoma.... It was caused by another dog getting her ear.
We like to call that other dog LOLA!
Lola owes me $75!!
The vet figured out the cause after looking closer and opening her ear. Once he said it was caused by another dog we agreed. When Layla and Lola wrestle, Lola likes to go for the ears. I guess this means no more wrestling for the girls. I don't care to pay $75 ever again!!!
Now that Layla is home, we think we have another problem of dominance. The girls seems not so okay with each other any more. Their hair is sticking up at each other and they get in their big girl stance with they're sniffing each other. We'll see how this turns out. I'm sure Lola loved Layla being gone. She got all the toys and got to be out of her cage more, and even allowed to sleep with us. Since Layla's been home, she's been in her cage more. We feel bad, but once they learn to not fight, they'll both have free rain of the house!
I'm thinking she's happy to be home!
